The story of the Zaporizhia station.. Nuclear horror in Ukraine

The world held its breath as fighting in Ukraine reached the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, but concern dissipated as Kiev declared control of the fire caused by an attack by Russian forces in the region.

What is the Zaporizhia nuclear plant What is its importance

The nuclear plant is located in the city of inirhodar, Zaporizhia province, southern Ukraine, specifically on the Bank of the kakhovka reservoir branching from the Dnieper River.

It is owned and operated by the Ukrainian nuclear power generation company (State Corporation).

Zaporizhia is one of the most profitable operating nuclear power plants in the country, but it is the largest and most prominent not in Ukraine but in the whole of Europe.

The plant produces the equivalent of 42 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which constitutes about 40 percent of the total electricity generated by Ukrainian nuclear power plants, and a fifth of the annual electricity production in Ukraine, according to the scientific site "power technology".

This nuclear plant began operating in 1984, so its design was and still is Soviet and produced about 1.23 trillion kWh of electricity as of December 2021.
